This is a cushion to welcome in the New Year of 2021. Suyay means ‘hope’ in Quechua - an indigenous language of the central Andes, mostly spoken in Peru.
Originally made using a variety of mixed media. Printed in Spain by method of sublimation, a technique that requires no water and therefore has less impact on the environment. Assembled in France, each cushion is made up of carefully selected hemp and high quality recycled polyester microfibre - the cushion insert is also made of recycled polyester. Stamped by hand, the zip’s brass droplet is a shape that often appears in my artwork and a symbol that represents water– the source of life.
